10 Places Dedicated to Amazing Black Women

The legacy of Black people in the United States is filled with extreme hardship and hard-won triumph. Conquering unimaginable odds has fostered a spirit of perseverance and community that spans generations.

That unrelenting drive to achieve equality would not have been possible without a few trailblazers—many of whom were women. Black women were pioneers in the fight for freedom, from creating learning institutions for Black children when opportunities were scarce, to playing a direct role in helping enslaved populations find salvation in freedom, to changing the culture through their actions and talents. 

Here are 10 places to celebrate the accomplishments of these women, who helped forge a better future for Black people in the United States—and to remind ourselves how much work remains to be done.
