Marvel reveals the full track list for the 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' soundtrack
Guardians of the Galaxyfans, rejoice: Meredith Quill has made us another mixtape.
Marvel Studios has unveiled the track list for Awesome Mix Vol. 2– i.e., the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2soundtrack. And just like Awesome Mix Vol. 1, it's full of catchy classics that'll get you dancing, Groot-style, in your living room.
Or on the subway on your way to work. Or in your car while you go to work. Or on your spaceship, en route to saving the galaxy. We don't know your life.
SEE ALSO:The first reactions to 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' have hit social mediaStar-Lord's '70s tunes have become as much a signature of the Guardiansfranchise as the cheeky dialogue, the colorful visuals, the planet-hopping storylines, or even the Guardians themselves.
However, Marvel Studios initially didn't want them in there at all.
As director James Gunn recounted to Rolling Stone, the studio was skeptical that audiences would be into them. "Nobody is going to want to hear this music," he was told.
But Gunn insisted, and in the end, his confidence was rewarded. Awesome Mix Vol. 1hit #1 on the Billboard200 chart, becoming the first movie soundtrack in history to accomplish that feat without including any new songs whatsoever.
Awesome Mix Vol. 2won't get the opportunity to repeat that feat, though, as it does serve up one original tune. Featuring David Hasselhoff. Because why the hell not?

The specific songs set a mood for Guardians, and serve to comment on or emphasize various plot points throughout the movie. But they also tell us a lot about the person who made them within the universe of the movie: Star-Lord's mother, Meredith Quill.
As Gunn sees it:
She's a music lover, but she's completely not elitist. If it's something that's thought of as goofy and pop, she likes it. If it's cool or funk, she likes it. She just likes hooks and melodies. She's a very quirky, young girl who fell in love with, you know, as it ends up, an alien. And falling in love with an alien is right up there in Meredith Quill's alley. She's an oddball, like her son.
An oddball, maybe, but one with greattaste in music.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2is in theaters May 5. Awesome Mix Vol. 2hits shelves (digital or otherwise) on April 21.
